Godfrey Wood Cup

The Godfrey Wood Cup Hockey Tournament is set to make its debut September 11–13, 2026 at the Family Ice Center in Falmouth, Maine—bringing together players, families, and fans for a meaningful weekend of hockey and community.

Created by Family Ice Center board member Jim Bonnvie, the tournament honors the life and legacy of Godfrey Wood, whose impact on the local community and hockey world continues to be deeply felt. Designed for players 55+, the event will feature competitive North and South divisions, with teams matched by roster strength and guaranteed multiple games throughout the weekend.

More than just a tournament, the Godfrey Wood Cup is a celebration of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and community spirit. All proceeds from the event will directly support the Family Ice Center, helping to ensure its continued role as a hub for local athletics and connection.

North Divison   – 4 teams 55+

South Division – 4 teams 55+

Registration

Each team Captain will need to fill out a registration form. Use the link below to register your team for the tournament.

The registration deadline is July 1st, 2026.  First 4 teams per division to submit deposit will hold your spot.

 

Tournament Fee

All payments are in US funds. Team Managers are responsible to make these payments. 50% Deposit of $800.00 is required at time of roster submission. Please make final payment day of tournament. Team Entry fee is $1,600.

Tournament Details and Rules

  • 4 games guaranteed
  • 3×12 minute running time periods. Stop time last 5 minutes
  • Age requirement is 55+ 3 players allowed 50 +
  • Goalies can be 5 years younger than the designated age.
  • We highly recommended that you wear a cage or half shield.
  • No body contact. If you clearly body check another player, your team will be penalized and you are out for the remainder of that game.
  • Slapshots are allowed in North Division – None allowed in South
  • 2 minute warmup (be on time)
  • 30 seconds between periods
  • No timeouts
  • Blueline icing
  • In any game, once you are down by 5 goals we are running the clock.
  • In a goals for & against tie breaker we don’t use more than 4 goals in differential.
  • 3 Penalties in the same game and you are out for the remainder of that game.
  • If you fight you are penalized and are out for the remainder of the tournament.
  • Each team gets 2 points for a win.
  • Each team gets 1 point for a tie.
  • 4 Team Division plays 3 game round robin with top two teams playing in championship game.
  • If teams are tied after round robin play, we will seeding by: 1. head to head  2. penalty infractions  3. goals for & against  4. Coin flip.
  • If there is a tie in final game after regulation play, we will play a 4×4 sudden death overtime for 2 minutes.
  • If the teams are tied after the 4×4 sudden death, we will go to a 3 man shoot out.  If no one scores, the teams will continue to take turns until someone scores using a different player.
